Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Event

May 30, 2013

With Macklemore and Ryan Lewis as the headliner entertainment for the evening, and their hit song “Thrift Shop” in heavy rotation on the tele and airwaves, we were inspired to design a space perfect for any hipster! With an empty tent as our canvas, we transformed a parking lot into an environment that was fresh, fun and full of excitement.
From an eclectic mix of vintage and flea market finds to movie props and custom pieces, every component was hand selected and designed with purpose. We wanted to perfect the Thrift Shop Chic ambiance. The key was to create a cohesive look while using an array of different elements.

The blueprint for the tent was set by hardwood floors and custom brick wall panels. The brick wall was a unique opportunity to skip the traditional drape route and use a framework that would allow us to showcase retro photos, mirrors and authentic art.

Our floral selection consisted of brightly colored bunches of daffodils, anemones, tulips, orchids, and ranunculus. To add even more funk to the overall look we presented our arrangements in bright ceramic, glass and found object vases. The floral designs were mirrored in the statement french cotton floral installations for the DJ and dancers. This vibrant detail offered a soft touch to the more masculine walls and flooring, constituting a well balanced atmosphere.

Each unique vignette served as seating arrangements for the guests. They flowed from one setting to the next through the aesthetics of color, style and size. The vignettes had an element of neutral tones with pops of color to add a layers of visual interest. The seating arrangements contained mostly low profile mid-century furniture with a few high profile pieces to add levels to the vignette.

Venturing outside, guests said cheese in front of the media wall filled with more beautiful french cotton flowers. There were dozens of high and low tables, colorful chairs with a dash of kitschy beach chairs and flamingos offered ample seating for guests to chow down, mingle and enjoy the evening.

The vintage Airstream photo booth encouraged fun accessories and added a bit of spunk to guest’s photos. The Airstream held true to the vintage mid-century theme inside of the tent.

A plethora of food trucks surrounded the tent providing a variety of delectable treats, ranging from savory to sweet.
We opted to remove the entrance tent wall creating an indoor/outdoor space making the overall event space feel larger. The more inviting space provided the opportunity for more interaction among guests. To further enhance the experience, we set up a pop-up thrift shop to encourage guests to wear some vintage threads adding to the overall Thrift Shop Chic theme. Guest browsed while humming the lyrics “I’m, I’m, I’m hunting, looking for a come up!”

The wow factor of the evening were larger than life marquee letters set behind the bar, each lit up creating a custom backdrop for beautiful gogo dancers. This placement created a focal point for guests whether they were inside or outside.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, a creative duo from Seattle, Washington was the wildly popular headlining entertainment for the event. They have emerged as a premier national hip-hop group known for their electrifying live shows, expertly crafted music, fearless lyrics and innovative music videos and media.
Their single “Thrift Shop” has top 40 on the Billboard Top 100 chart and is still climbing, with a wildly popular music video (20 million+ views on YouTube) on heavy rotation on BET and MTV2. “Same Love,” a song and video in support of marriage equality, galvanized young fans and voters and led to a live studio performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
While on their 70-city, completely sold-out world tour supporting The Heist, they have garnered attention in Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, TIME and GQ, with live performances on VH1 and an upcoming feature on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
