Our GRAMMY® Week Report: The Person of the Year for MusiCares Honoring Dolly Parton Charity Auction & Gala

Last week we were honored to help create the 29th annual benefit gala for the MusiCares Person of the Year tribute honoring Dolly Parton. MusiCares is a charity founded by the Recording Academy and its Person of the Year tribute is one of the most prestigious events held during the GRAMMY® Week. This year’s event raised $6.7 million, so we thought we’d take you on our journey in how we helped create this beautiful auction and gala. 

The Person of the Year event was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, two nights prior to the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. The EPI team worked months in advance on a concept for the event. Above is a shot of the space before the magical transformation happened.

Our team was tasked with creating floral and decor, not only for the gala but also the charity auction reception and registration.

Elegance with a Southern Flair was our concept and we worked to carry that through from the lobby, with massive floral pieces greeting the attendees, and then to furniture vignettes, which helped evoke Southern Charm.

EPI chose champagne linens with a crinkled texture to elevate the space. White hydrangeas and white roses with pops of yellow to celebrate the ever-vibrant Dolly Parton. Yellow happens to also be Dolly Parton’s favorite color.

To further create visual interest, in a room with nearly 300 tables, EPI designed two looks for the table settings.

An ornate gold urn with free-flowing florals and mini lantern votives paired perfectly with the large gold lantern surrounded by florals. Each table was filled with ambient candle light.

Guests, which included the nights performers such as Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves, Miley Cyrus, Norah Jones, P!nk, Katy Perry and more, were greeted with comfortable furniture vignettes, evoking southern charm with an elevated style, accented with gold details from large lanterns with twinkle lights inside to one-of-a-kind floral arrangements at the charity auction reception.
